North Wales Crusaders have strengthened their squad for 2013 by signing the experienced Gary Middlehurst from Rochdale Hornets.
The 28-year old second row or loose forward brings plenty of experience to the Racecourse will add strength to the Crusaders’ forward pack.
Widnes born, he started in the Academy with his home club and had spells with local sides Halton Simms Cross and Leigh East before moving to Rochdale two years ago.
While at Leigh, he toured South Africa with the Great Britain Community Lions.
“It’s a new chapter for me,” said Middlehurst. “Quite a few of my friends play for North Wales Crusaders. They’re an up and coming team and that league and I really think that we’re going to win it. With the players there and the quality of the coaching, we’ll be a strong team next year.
“I want to win honours but I also want to help this new club. I’ve known Clive Griffiths all my life and I’m good friends with John Fieldhouse too who I’ve worked under before. They’re both brilliant coaches so I’ll better myself working with them. I’m looking forward to it.”
Griffiths said: “Gary was one of the stand-out players in Championship 1 last season. I’ve watched Gary’s career for years. He’s a quality player and was unlucky not to be in last year’s Dream Team.
“We’re delighted to have him on board. We lost Anthony Morrison who’s gone abroad to play in Australia and who better to come in and take his place. His signing will add to our pack, he’s a very solid all-round player who can win a game and break it up with his attacking ability.”
